Ford Focus Overview
With a completely restyled, more sculpted exterior and a cabin space that’s more advanced and sophisticated than ever, this is the most refined Focus yet.
This next generation model incorporates a wide range of remarkable new technologies, too. For example, Ford SYNC 2 with Voice Control and 8” Touchscreen enables you to intuitively operate the car’s navigation, entertainment and climate control systems, just by using your voice. And an upgraded Active Park Assist has now been enhanced to take the stress out of both parallel and perpendicular parking.
A range of state-of-the-art petrol and diesel engines deliver the perfect balance of power and fuel-economy. An advanced PowerShift transmission and paddle shift gear changes maximise the performance and efficiency of both.
The latest hands-free technology
Ford SYNC 2 with Voice Control and Touchscreen takes the existing infotainment system a step further with the addition of an optional 8” coloured touchscreen. This high-resolution display gives intuitive control of several key functions including phone, audio, climate control and optional navigation via voice or touch.
Change gears fast, with your fingertips
Choose an automatic transmission and you’ll get the option of performance car-style Automatic Paddle Shift Controls. The paddles are fixed on each side of the steering wheel and with right to change up, left to change down controls you can make rapid gearshifts with your fingertips, even when cornering.
Ford PowerShift. Fast and fuel saving
Combining the convenience of an automatic with the control of a manual, this advanced six-speed gearbox pre-selects the next gear for you so you don’t lose power when you change. PowerShift’s lightning fast, seamless gear changes make driving smoother while saving fuel and lowering CO2 emissions compared with a normal automatic.
Spots the vehicles you might miss
Cross Traffic Alert is an entirely new technology that’s now part of the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS). When you’re reversing out of a space and have limited visibility of the traffic situation, Cross Traffic Alert can detect oncoming vehicles and sound a warning. The technology illuminates a light in the wing mirror too, (left or right depending on the direction of oncoming traffic).
Parking made even easier
Active Park Assist technology can help you park hands-free into parallel spaces and make it easier to park into perpendicular spaces (like multi-storey carparks). The technology can detect a space then control the steering as you reverse into it. In addition, Park Out Assist is designed to help steer you out of the tightest of spaces.
Power and efficiency: enjoy them both
Engine technology plays a key role in the Focus, helping to reduce both running costs and emissions while delivering rewarding levels of power and performance.
The line-up now includes 1.5-litre EcoBoost petrol and 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine options. Both include Auto-Start-Stop, and fuel-economy figures have been further improved across the range.
All the new engines have been designed to meet the stringent Euro 6 emissions standards. And a version of the powerful 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine already reduces emissions to less than 100 g/km CO2.
A version of the surprisingly powerful 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine will offer sub-100 g/km CO2 emissions: the first non-hybrid, petrol family car in Europe to do so.
Power and efficiency without compromise
The 1.5L EcoBoost is a new addition to the successful EcoBoost range. The engine has been clevery downsized from the 1.6L EcoBoost, to provide lower emissions and even better fuel economy… without compromising power and handling. Available in: 150PS or 180PS variants and with a 6-speed manual gearbox. An automatic option will also be available from Spring 2015.
An all-new option
The 1.5L TDCi is a new engine. Based on the 1.6L TDCi, it offers the same power on entry level with 95PS, but increased power at 120PS (from 115PS), whilst maximising fuel economy and reducing emissions. This engine is currently available with a 6-speed manual gearbox and, from Spring 2015, as a 120PS with automatic transmission.
The 2.0 litre diesel engine is also new and is available in 150PS with either a manual 6-speed or PowerShift automatic transmission. This new diesel engine delivers a significant reduction in emissions over the 2.0l diesel it replaces.
Maximum cornering control
Torque Vectoring Control balances engine torque between the front wheels to suit the road surface and driving conditions. Operating at 100 times a second, the system is 33 times faster than the blink of an eye. Which means more grip and ultra-precise handling, as you’ll discover when you’re accelerating through corners.
A Euro NCAP Advanced reward, for keeping you safe
Active City Stop, Lane Keeping Aid, Driver Alert and Forward Alert have each received a Euro NCAP Advanced reward: the highest given by Europe’s leading independent safety organisation. The rewards recognise only the most advanced avoidance, crash and post-crash technologies available in a car. And it’s a measure of Ford’s commitment to safety that across our range, we’ve now received a total of seven Euro NCAP Advanced rewards, all for innovations designed to protect you.
Coordinated safety systems activate in a split-second
The Ford Focus is equipped with an advanced Intelligent Protection System (IPS), which coordinates a number of safety systems to protect you and your passengers.
As well as a rigid, impact-absorbing bodyshell, containing advanced high-tensile steels, there’s an array of airbags to shield the car’s occupants, plus a steering column and pedals that collapse away from the driver, to reduce the chance of injury in the event of an accident.
Stay in control whatever the conditions
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) constantly monitors your vehicle’s progress. If it senses any deviations from your chosen driving line, such as if you start to skid, It automatically corrects your road position, helping you keep control of the car. The ESC of the new Ford Focus now contains the new Enhanced Transitional Stability feature offering improved stability during avoidance manoeuvres and giving more control to the driver.
ESC also incorporates Traction Control, to eliminate excessive wheel spin and give you the best possible grip, performance and stability, just when you need it most.
The system is always active, but you have the option to switch to the ‘Traction Control OFF’ mode, which allows higher wheel spin to improve traction in very specific and demanding situations, for example when trying to get unstuck in deep snow, mud or sand.
Finally, with stiffer front callipers and front and rear friction materials, the latest generation of ESC maximises braking effectiveness in difficult conditions.
Pre-Collision Assist operates throughout the whole speed range detecting moving objects. If it detects that a collision is probable and there is no reaction from the driver, it sends a visual and acoustic warning message to the cluster (Forward Alert) and then applies medium braking forces.
